I'm sure there are plenty of people on the site that can do this with their eyes shut. But for those who want to do a bit of self servicing this may help.

Get your pads and remove from packaging. Dispose of said packaging in an enviromently safe manner.

Remove the little 'R' clip from the end of the pad retaining pin. Using an allen key (wrench) unscrew the retaining pin. Take the rubber bleed screw cap off and place a piece of pipe onto the bleed nipple , placeing the other end into a container. Crack open the bleed nipple - just a quarter turn should do it. With your fingers placed on the top edge of the (still in place) brake pad, force the pistons back into the caliper body (do both). You should see a small amount of brake fluid forced through the pipe. At all costs - do not get this stuff on your paintwork or wheels. Remove old pads by pulling them out the top of the caliper. Tighten up the bleed screw (dont over tighten - they snap easy). Replace the rubber cap.

Clean up the pin and the springy thing. I use a rotary wire wheel to clean the pin. The springy thing cleans up really easy. Spray a load of Brake Cleaner into your caliper to clear away the brake dust.

Before.

After.

Useing a small amount of copper slip, (or any non mineral high temp brake friendly goo) put some on the back of the pads and coat the pin including the thread. Put the new pads into the caliper, replace the springy thing and refit the retaining pin.

Screw pin into place and replace 'R' clip. Wipe away excess waste. --- Your done.

Finally - check your fluid level at the handlebar end. Check you have replaced the 'R' clips. Pump the brake lever a few times before you set off. Then go and get them bedded in. Check the following posts for anything I may have missed.

Thanks for the tips, have done the Vstar and America before. Also, the Mighty Vac brake bleeder works great, got one on Ebay and it makes the job easy for one person.

Thanks for the post and the pics! Just replaced my front pads with these and couldn't be happier with the stopping ability of these pads... Crazy easy to swap once I saw your pics!

Great stuff - glad it went well. And you get to leave your cash in your own pocket.

Just about to do brakes myself, forgot about Mat's post. Thanks for dredging it up!
Would add one thing to the mix: Speed bleeders. I've had them since two brake jobs ago, and highly recommend 'em. Makes an awkward process fast and easy.
